How do i stop molly being aggressive towards people that visit us!!!!
|

Make sure you greet your guests first, make Molly wait somewhere else if necessary. ( I am not allowed to get in there first, I'm not supposed to think anyone has come to see me, I used to have to wait behind my gate)Say NO to aggression (use a water squirty or shaker if it falls on deaf ears, but please make sure you know how to first). Once settled, get your visitors to give snackies to Molly, then she'll learn that visitors are good. Small steps are good, break the task down bit by bit, us dogs are a bit autistic see? Always let molly achieve the goal, don't set her up to fail by doing the task as one project. Love George x

bang on Gorgeous, Phoenix has anxiety issues, one of which was starngers entering the house, i took him to a behaviourist who told me to do the exact thing you posted, it does work, takes time to start off with , but belive me he is much more relaxed with guests now, regardless though of who it is or how often they have been , we still put the dogs in the kitchen when peolpe come in this is the routine , they are very good too, they go straight in no messing about, when they are calm , Phoe maninly, Indi gets excited, they are invited in , , i have a pot of dried liver treats by the door for the boys when we have guests , now all the visitors complian of is the drool lol

Good advice so far. Make sure she has positive experiences with new people and she will learn to love guests. Never use punishment as she will learn to associate punishment with visitors. Try desensatizing her to the sounds of visitors as well like doorbells and knocking. Have someone stand outside the door and ring the doorbell or knock. Do not react at all. Doorbell means nothing exciting happening. Do that until she does not react to them.

With Phoebe I have to stand up until the visitors have sat down, and then giver her a treat, it took few tries for her to realise she cant jump on visitors on nip them, but she knows now she gets treated if she waits and doesnt jump.

Never use punishment, guests should always be a positive experience. Have the guests speak softly and offer treats. Sometimes it helps to greet guests outside on a leash and walk in with them.
